Why Two Targets?

At Two Targets Marketing we strongly believe that a quality marketing plan ALWAYS must to be focused on two targets. The first of these two targets is only a short distance in front of us. With Internet Marketing, this first target could be the look and feel of a new web site. Most people can quickly define what they want their web site to look like or operate. The second target in this example would be the Search Engine Optimization of that web site. This second target is harder to hit as it sits off in the distance. It is often harder to define, and sometimes even see. This second target involves designing and building a very complex matrix that flows throughout the Internet.

It is as though we stand with a gun in our hand, one target standing only 5 yards in front of us and the second target 100 yards in the distance. What most don’t realize, as they quickly shoot at the first target, is that you only have one bullet in your gun. It is far easier to design the web site with both targets clearly in mind before the shot is fired than afterwards. Digging that round out of the hill and re-tooling it to be fired again is rather costly. Sometimes so costly that it is never done.

The classic two target example comes from the sales/marketing give and take in a business organization. The sales department clearly sees its 5 yard target, making a sale, and can’t wait to shoot the gun and hit it. The Marketing department knows its 100 yard target is harder to define and hit - that being the corporate image and branding the sales process is creating. In most organizations the sales process wants to move quickly and the marketing process wants to move slowly and with clear long term vision….or at the very least have the organization take the time to define the long term goals so they can be incorporated into the sales process.

At Two Targets Marketing we incorporate this philosophy into everything we do. Drop us a line and we will tell you more. We would love to talk to you about how the Two Targets philosophy would apply to your Internet Marketing challenges.
